Raf Simons’ First Collection for Calvin Klein

Unless you are new to the fashion industry, then it won’t come as a surprise that the legendary Raf Simons took over the creative direction of Calvin Klein August last year. Now, Raf Simons and the Calvin team presented their first collection for Calvin Klein.

Calvin Klein has a design tradition of clean minimalistic cuts, and this tradition matched the abilities of Raf Simons very well. The Calvin Klein design aesthetics was mixed with Raf Simons habit of involving remarkable colors that pops out.

The menswear and womenswear pieces was very much alike in this joint collection. Many of the designs were repeated, so there was respectively a mens and a womens version. Androgyn is by now a common word in fashion, but having the exact designs replicated for men and women are not that common. It have however been seen at houses like Valentino (who had the rockstud untitled collection). It’s a beautiful statement in itself. The declaration that men and women are not so different after all.

The main characteristics of the collection were the denim tradition of CK, the unusual usage of color, see thru pieces, double breasted tailoring, and fetish like plastic coats.

Personally I am big fan of Raf Simons, so I am looking very much forward to see what the Calvin Klein and Raf Simons team can achieve.

Best Regards
