Karl Lagerfeld x Vans
If anyone have had major impact on the fashion industry the last … well since the late 1950’s, then it’s Karl Lagerfeld! The German born designer have had many prestigious work spaces before ending up running the creative direction of not 1, not 2, but 3 major fashion houses. We’re talking Chanel, Fendi and of course his own namesake label Karl Lagerfeld. The designer who is known for his luxurious pieces now step into the game of High-end vs Streetwear with a collaboration with Vans. A game that is currently dominated by the Instagram dominating design collaboration between Supreme and Louis Vuitton.
Well, but Vans. The home of the Sk8-hi, Old Skool, and a characteristic check pattern. A(nother) relevant skateboarding brand that is embraced by the high street culture. According to sources should capsule collection consist of 6 pieces (including Sk8-hi & Old Skool) revamped with a touch of Karl. We’re talking boucle fabrics and a quilted letter K used as a motif. Beside shoes, the collaboration is said to also involve a black and white T-shirt (of Karl wearing a checkerboard tie (!!!!)) a bomber and a leather backpack with the quilted K motif.
Prices are said to range from $40 – 300$. The capsule collection will be presented at the Bread & Butter trade show in Berlin in start September. It will be available through Karl Lagerfeld boutiques as well as both brands’ ecommerce sites at the 7th of September (please correct me if I’m wrong!) .
Many of these design collaborations seem to slip by my attention, but this one really interests me! I’m very excited to see the outcome! I’m hoping it won’t be just a cheap brand stamp but rather a collaboration that actually embraces both the design identities.
