Dior Homme: Kris Van Assche Exitis, Kim Jones joins.
One of mens fashion’s unsung heroes is stepping down from his position of the maison de la couture des rêves. We’re talking about Kris Van Assche, the menswear designer of Dior Homme. In a statement brought by Business of Fashion he tells that “After eleven years at Dior Homme, my mind and heart filled with experiences, I am leaving this beautiful house to pursue new challenges”.
Personally, Van Assche is one of my favourite high end designers. His lean silhouettes and mix between clean elegance and contemplating dystopia creates a dark contrastful universe that I’m a big fan of. When I’ve had the occasional top designer debate that with friends (in particular PreppyBeast) it has often ended in a consensus that Van Assche is one of the most underrated designers working for the top luxury houses at the moment. So, I’m looking forward to see what is next for Van Assche, and whether it will allow him the attention he deserves!
Even though these news of the departure are just breaking, then the successor has already been confirmed Dior! And who better to take over the artistic direction than Kim Jones! Kim Jones is the former artistic director for menswear at Louis Vuitton, and have managed with his sporty aesthetic to build a LV menswear cult! This will definitely create some buzz around Dior’s menswear universe, no doubt! This would also mean that maison Dior would have a very strong team with their two creative directors. Namely, Kim Jones for menswear, but also Maria Grazia for womenswear (who was at Valentino prior to this). I expect a very bright future for the entangling Parisian maison.

Generally, this mark yet another shift in the artistic direction among the luxury fashion houses. Something extremely frequent as of late. A few examples are Hedi Slimane to Céline, Raf Simons to Calvin Klein, Maria Grazia to Dior, Ricardo Tisci to Burberry just to name a few.
Kim Jones’ first collection is to be showed already in June!
