Most Insta friendly hotel I’ve ever checked in to: Doryssa Boutique Hotel
The Insta Friendly Doryssa Boutique Hotel
On the Greek island Samos you’ll find the newly opened little hotel named Doryssa Boutique Hotel. A consistenly designed adult only boutique hotel. From the very moment you enter the gate of the hotel you are met with a cohesive aesthetic. Everything from the exterior to the interior are totally in sync and incredible insta friendly!
The majority of the exterior are made from unpolished stones and natural woods. This demonstrates a neatly balanced contrast between the roughness of the stones and the sensitive natural woods, while they are both cohesively raw. This contrast between the materials are further brought into the interior. The rooms contain concrete flooring while other elements of the interior are either made of natural woods or concrete with a light unstructured glazing. All kept in neutral faded tones. Very rustic and boho chic at once. The rooms are furnished only with necessities, very spartan. A kingsize bed, a sink, a small open wardrobe, a mini fridge, separate toilet and walk in rain shower.
As we stayed in a superior room at the Doryssa Boutique hotel we in addition had direct access from the room to a private shared pool. While it sounds counterintuitive to have a ‘private’ ‘shared’ pool, it was actually very pleasant. It meant that you could actually swim back and forth, and not just have a sit-in-a-tub feeling. And then again, you only shared it with 3 other rooms, so its not like it was very populated. Each of these superior rooms also had a small private terrace by their access to the pool, which was well shielded from the adjacent rooms. Here was a table, chairs and a king size sunbed.
These private terraces offered the opportunity to sunbathe while being a little bloated after eating well at the well stocked morning buffet. After a few hours in privacy, you could then eat lunch at the restaurant, which unfortunately is one of the only decent places at the entire island to eat. Yeah I know.. a lot of eating. On a side note, the portion sizes on Samos are gigantic! You wont leave the island having lost weight, that is a promise!
After the lunch the private terraces start to sit in the shade, meaning it is time to move to the shared poolside. Again, its an adult only hotel, meaning that pretty much the only noise you’ll encounter, is that you make yourself. Further, as the hotel only has 26 rooms, there are always plenty available sunbeds and you thus don’t have to fight for them. Therefore, the private (shared) pool are pretty much just a well composed add on.
Furthermore, I’ve never encountered such creative bed making! To our big surprise had the hotel maid made the bed with different motifs every day. This ranged octopuses and to butterflies, and with a delightful incorporation of our hats. Very amusing and so sweet! It got to a point where we actually looked forward to getting back to the hotel to see how the maid had made the bed!
To top off the very wonderful hotel is such a friendly and calm atmosphere facilitated by the very friendly and helpful staff. They truly make you feel welcome, truly welcome. I can honestly say that, if my path should lead me to Samos once again, I’d definitely stay at the Doryssa Boutique Hotel once more.
