Sunnei Fall Winter 2018 Show Review
I was fairly surprised when the fairly young Italian brand Sunnei (pronounced like sunny with an Italian accent) was revealed to be showing during the Copenhagen Fashion Week. Primarily because the Danish show scene usually contains regional designers. So an Italian brand may vouch for the CPHFW becoming a more international destination in the future? Well, we can only hope! Because while there are many cool Danish designers, then I personally feel that both a little competition and diversity would suit it. I feel that the Sunnei Fall Winter 2018 collection provided some of that diversity.
Nonetheless, the Sunnei duo (Loris Messina & Simone Rizzo) presented their collection at CPHFW despite also showing it in Milan in January. However, this time was more conceptualised. Usually when you attend a runway show you have only a few seconds to see the pieces and form an opinion about it before the moment is gone. But this was different. While a big element of a fashion show is to see the clothes in movement then Sunnei challenged the conventional idea of a catwalk. The models were simple walking on treadmills. This allowed the audience to walk around and see the clothes from different angles while the models were in movement.
Sunnei’s aesthetic is very quirky with playful loose silhouettes. The designers claim (in an interview) that they don’t make showpieces, they make clothes that are to be sold as you see them on the runway. They themelves call it a combination of Haute and streetwear. So even though the clothes seem to be a little over the edge, then the majority of the pieces actually looks quite easy to wear.
From a Scandinavian approach then some of the color choices may be a little bold. However, it stems very well with their Italian heritage and their mentality about not taking everything too dead serious. And despite I usually find my self wearing black, grey, navy and white, then I would like to say yes please for just a little more color in the male wardrobe.
Some of my personal favourite pieces from the collection are definitely the strap on bags(!!!) and that grey and blue/white striped jersey anorak. Super cool pieces that you can see on the picture above.
The Sunnei Fall Winter 2018 collection showed in Copenhagen was almost the full collection, but you can see it in it’s entirety from the runway in Milan HERE.
