The Shuffle continues!
Not too long ago I could report with a bit of grief that Kris Van Assche was stepping down from his 11 year long tenure at Dior Homme (where he replaced Hedi Slimane). Of course the news of Kim Jones being the successor at Dior Homme helped me overcome my slight distress of this departure. While I was convinced that for now I would have to seek out Kris Van Assche’s namesake brand for his creative outlet, then it turned out that he was in fact involved in yet another top position shuffle. The Belgian designer is to take over the creative direction of the Italian heritage brand Berluti. Here he will replace Haider Ackermann, a designer that I have the greatest respect for! In particular I would advice any the fashionista that do not know of his creation to spend a moment on google.
Berluti has always been about the classical deeds and craftsmanship, but while Van Assche is more anchored in contemporary fashion, then he often seem to draw inspiration from the traditional menswear wardrobe. So as a great admire(!) of Van Assche’s creations then I think that this a match made in heaven! I have no doubt that this new relationship will take the Berluti to new heights.
Further, Kris Van Assche says “I have always wanted to build bridges between the savoir-faire, the heritage of a house and my clear-cut contemporary vision. Antoine Arnault [CEO of Berluti ed.] spoke to me of his ambitions for Berluti and it is with great pleasure that I accept this new challenge which fits perfectly with my own will and vision. I would also like to thank Mr Bernard Arnault [CEO of LVMH ed.] for his renewed confidence. “
Kris Van Assche will present his first collection during Paris Men’s Fashion Week in January 2019.
